WE DID IT!

Tonight we sailed past our initial goal, with over a week to spare- a more than generous backing from the mysterious Wayne Foundation pushed us well into the black. Now we have funding to keep our artists and animators working without worry. Every additional dollar we make past our goal will go directly into the game, making it bigger and better- and there are still prizes left for those of you who still want to become a part of the project.

I am really humbled by the amount of goodwill there has been towards this project, and I can’t wait to deliver on our promise to you- that we’ll be making a game that will surprise you and make you use your brain and be worth your time.

Again, you guys are all awesome. We will keep pushing on until the closing of the campaign in a little over a week, then I’ll have more information about when you can expect prizes (T-shirts and posters will be going out first, soundtrack is still being finished, game of course will be some time in the making. You’ll be the first to know.).

Kickstarter Update #5: Gettin’ ready.

Yesterday was a great day for the campaign- we got two new Thunderbeam heroes and added roughly $1500 towards our goal. If we maintain this velocity, I think weve got a really good chance of making our goal or over. I’ve already started to talk to two additional animators weve wanted to bring on and refine our still very rough animation process to prepare for getting funded.

Thunderbeam Heroes!

Thank you everyone! We are chugging along- every single backing counts, down to a dollar. I’ve been wholly flabbergasted though to see 4(!) THUNDERBEAM HERO level backings- a level I assumed no one would ever chip in at. And if you sniff out who those backers are, you will see they are totally heroes! We were super delighted to see Sword & Sworcery bard Jim Guthrie joining the ranks of the Thunderlords, and Eugenio Mira, director of Agnosia and The Birthday. Jamie Durrant and Lucius Kwok were new names to us, but a cursory search revealed that not only do they have fabulous names, they are awesome and talented to boot!
We’re doing it! There’s still far to go, but I am feeling really optimistic that we are going to make this happen, and I’ve been planning feverishly on how we are going to scale up and get our animation workflow going!
More updates soon!

Help Kickstart an iPad game brought to you in part by Wiley Wiggins and The Octopus Project | The A.V. Club Austin

The first product of Austin-based Karakasa Games, Thunderbeam! looks to bring retro-styled sci-fi action (and some moral dilemmas) to the iPad, but the developers need your donations to make that happen. As per standard “>Kickstarter procedure, there are some neat giveaways involved at varying levels of contribution (T-shirts, silk-screened posters, a limited-edition Playbutton mp3 preloaded with The Octopus Project’s soundtrack)—but the real prize is knowing that you helped get an innovative, challenging, and (assumedly) fun video game off the ground and onto your iPad.
